义乌復元私立医院由王福元先生独资创办。1989年，他抱着“为百姓办医院，为社会办事业”的理念辞去了担任多年的国家卫生院院长职务，1990年以来，先后创办了“义乌市前店村医院”和“义乌市关怀护理医院”。1996年，又投资2800余万元，在浙江义乌经济开发区创办了义乌復元私立医院，经上级主管部门批准，于1997年10月16日开业，属非营利性医院。
